Medical office managers and administrative medical assistants are versatile and valuable members of the healthcare team who can handle a broad range of duties, including patient registration, telephone, scheduling, medical records, accounts receivable, data entry, compliance regulations, human resources, and health information.
This in-depth program combines several programs, Medical Terminology, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA), Certified Electronic Health Records Specialist (CEHRS), and Certified Physician Practice Manager (CPPM), to give you the foundation and training needed to be a Medical Office Manager.
Managing a physician's office requires a wide range of skills. This course covers the competencies required, including effective patient flow, revenue cycle management, compliance regulations, human resources, health information, and general business processes.
The medical terminology course introduces key concepts of medical language and human anatomy, emphasizing the interconnectedness of body systems in health and disease. Students with prior knowledge can optionally test out by achieving a minimum score of 80%, replacing course content if desired. It is important to understand that this course feature only applies to the online Medical Terminology course.
Microsoft Office skills are important skills to have in any profession or workplace. Being able to work with Office programs is a must in today's workplace, you will learn essential introductory and advanced skills in Microsoft Word and Excel.
In Certified Medical Administrative Assist (CMAA) you will learn how to handle the increasing complexities of healthcare management and patient care in offices of physicians, offices of other providers, clinics, urgent care centers, ambulatory surgery centers, hospital departments and emergency rooms, home health agencies, assisted living facilities, educational institutions and group homes. This medical office manager certification course also includes an opportunity to participate in unpaid work experience.
During this medical office manager training course, you will get hands-on practice using real EHR software and learn the benefits these systems provide compared to traditional paper records and understand not only medical terms themselves, but also their application.
The Certified Physicians Practice Manager (CPPM) section will cover the requirements of managing the revenue cycle, compliance regulations, human resources, health information, and general business processes that make practice management a challenging yet rewarding profession. You will finish with the knowledge to achieve your CPPM certification.
Upon completion of this course, you will be ready to take the Certified Physician Practice Manager (CPPM) exam, offered by the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC), the Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA) and the Certified Electronic Health Records Specialist (CEHRS) national certification exams offered by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA). You will receive study guide materials, practice exams, AAPC membership, and a voucher for each exam.

Certification Requirements:
A minimum of two years of health care experience is strongly recommended. Additionally, in order to sit for national certification exams, candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent. Certification exams offered by AAPC and NHA are only available online to candidates located in the US.

Carline Dalgleish has worked in medical office administration for over 30 years. She holds a bachelor's degree in Business Information Systems, a master's degree in Leadership, and a post-baccalaureate certificate in Health Information Management. She is a Registered Health Information Administrator and an AHIMA Approved ICD-10-CM/PCS Trainer. Dalgleish is the author of an ICD-10 coding system and also owns her own consulting firm, AnnGrant Educational Services.
Stacey O'Brien
Stacey O'Brien has more than 10 years of experience in medical coding and reimbursement. Ms. O'Brien has been a risk adjustment coder for a Medicare advantage plan, audited medical records for a consulting firm, and currently supervises the coding and electronic claims submission process for a group medical practice. She has a bachelor's degree from the University of Pittsburgh and a CPC coding certification from the AAPC.
Sharon L. Blackford
Sharon L. Blackford, MA, BA, RMA, has over 30 years of experience in the medical field. She has a Master's degree in Organizational Management, a Bachelor's degree in Business Management, and has served as a Registered Medical Assistant since 1994. Sharon was an active duty Clinical Specialist in the U.S. Army for 10 years. Sharon later moved to the Gulf Coast to accept a position as the Director of Education of Blue Cliff College and was promoted to Campus Director.

Rachael Delekta is an MBA in Healthcare Administration and Certified Electronic Health Records Specialist. Rachael has been in the health care field for over ten years. She has worked mostly on the insurance side of things, as a customer service manager for dental insurance, a claims and customer service coach, and a workers' compensation case management biller and auditor. She works daily with medical records and healthcare software.

Leanne Walls, CPC, CHC, has over twenty years of experience in coding, compliance and practice management. She currently manages a large multi-specialty group practice with over 100 physicians. Nancy Smith has over 30 years of experience in the healthcare industry. Her clinical experience includes working as a medical assistant for a network of rural health clinics, and as a medical coder, insurance claims specialist, and medical records auditor. It does not count toward your overall score in this course if you do not achieve the minimum score required for mastery. Please note: Third party funded students may not be eligible.
